Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej

The name means off course „New Music Orchestra”  - and explains itself. Founded in 1996, this chamber ensemble was formed from students at the Music Academy of Katowice.

Today, the orchestra is made up of both graduates and students giving a powerful balance between youth and experience.

The Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej is a regular performer at the Warsaw Autumn Festival, as well as hosting its own festival, the New Music Festival in Bytom.

Being an ensemble of young people Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej is concerned with the challenge of engaging a larger audience to contemporary music – and not least how to maintain a young audience. The tools for this includes workshops for children, concerts for students, and in the NewAud project Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej wanted to explore other tactics for unlocking new music to more people.

The Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej has shared the following New:Aud resource:

Dance, performance and new music

Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej addressed varied groups of audiences for their concert as part of an international festival for dance and performance. Young people interested in dance and performance art, the regular new music audience and local authorities of culture politics were all invited to a concert. Among others the concert presented a piece written by the former Croatian president. This document describes the concept and aim of the concert.

New music for music students

Orkiestra Muzyki Nowej host their own annual New Music Festival. The opening concert was aimed at young people, aged 13-19, attending music schools. To be as close to their target audience as possible, the concert was held at the Szymanowski Secondary Music School. This document in brief describes the concert.
