Klangforum Wien

Every month the 24 musicians of Klangforum Wien meet to take artistic decisions. This highly respected ensemble is in fact a uniquely democratic construction where practically all decisions are taken in plenum.

It is also a very international ensemble, as the musicians come from 10 different countries. But the base is in Vienna, and the repertoire includes the second Vienna School to which is added the newest music particularly by Austrian composers.

Klangforum Wien is in all respects an institution. Known as one of the world’s finest contemporary ensembles, the Klangforum has premiered roughly 500 new pieces, recorded more than 70 CDs and given around 2000 appearances in the premier concert houses and opera venues all over the world.

At home in Vienna – a city where classical music, including the contemporary, is surrounded by the highest respect - the ensemble plays for a steady and devoted audience. In fact Klangforum is proud to say that the Bundespresident of Austria is one of their concert subscribers - who miss few of their concerts!
