Psappha Ensemble

The Psappha ensemble is based in Manchester, and was formed in 1991 by artistic director Tim Williams, who's also the percussionist of the ensemble. Psappha specialises in living composers from particularly UK and USA with an occasional view back to contemporary classics of the 20th century.

In the artistic directors own words the Psappha Ensemble do two kinds of concerts: “Regular concerts and musical theatre” and the ensemble is proud to have a strong theatrical side.

Also the Psappha ensemble has a strong profile using the internet to develop new audiences for contemporary music. Autumn 2010 saw the launch of “Composition Lab”, an online resource designed to accompany the composition element of GCSE and A-level music. Tireless champions of the music of today, Psappha is continually seeking to develop new audiences, breaking fresh ground in its innovative development of the digital dissemination of its work through free-to-view films of live performances on its website.

In 2010 Psappha was appointed Contemporary Ensemble in Residence at the University of Manchester. From this position the ensemble encourages the breaking down of barriers between artistic and educational experiences, inspires creativity and the exchange of ideas with students through interactive and collaborative projects.
